JPL Report – Round 9 – 6th June 2015

PL U12’s Belconnen United 6 vs Monaro 2
The Under 12’s got back to their winning ways with a 6-2 result over Monaro. Belconnen had a strong start with Sam, Dylan and Riley playing well in the midfield. The backs combined with Cooper to release James S down the wing, with a cross that was met at the back post by Alexander, 1-nil.
Monaro was back on level terms with a free-kick hitting the crossbar and their striker tapping it in. However, Belconnen took back the lead with Odhran splitting the Monaro defence with a well weighted through ball playing Noah on goal who made no mistake, 2-1. Riley’s dominance in the midfield was creating time and space and when the opportunity presented itself, he found the top corner of the net from 25 metres out, Ka-Boom 3-1. Odhran duplicated Riley’s effort, also finding the top of the net with a strike from just inside the box.
Belconnen was making it hard for Monaro to clear the ball with the forwards creating great pressure. This resulted in a Monaro defender striking the ball into his own net for a 5-1 half time score.
Monaro came back into the game but Belconnen’s defence was solid with Ryan having a great battle on the left and Marko making some great plays, combining with Sam and James R to control the game.
Odhran scored his second goal, deciding not to fuss the strikers and scoring directly from a corner kick, an amazing strike, before Monaro scored a late goal to make the final score 6-2.

BUFC 16PL (11) Vs MONARO FC (1)

Our game on Saturday against Monaro would be a tough one for the boys, regardless of where they both sit on the PL table.  So many times have we seen teams not step up as they become ‘over-confident’ and don’t treat their opposition with the respect they deserve.  For this group of players, they play every game like it’s a final.

The game started off like the week before, structured football with great intensity from the kick off.  Both sides tried to gain control of the game in the midfield but it wouldn’t be long before the boys from Belconnen would start to squeeze the Monaro defensive backs into making repeated errors.  The only escape for Monaro was to send the ball long, which resulted in an automatic turn-over.  By half time, in a game of 45 minutes per half, we scored 4 goals after having 39 shots at goals.  The percentage of possession was a staggering 74% at half time and Monaro was only able to take 2 shots at goals.

The goals in the first half came from Lucas Falconer on a free kick rebound from Nick Rolls 20 metres out in front, followed by our young Goulburn representative Liam Rae who again, found the back of the net for the 7th time this season.  Stay tuned, but it wouldn’t be the same without that young import from Nowra Martin Crome, who would catapult a ball into the net around the 30th minute mark of the game.  The shot left the Monaro goalkeeper dazed after it rocketed past his gloves.  The fourth goal for the half came from the boots of Jayde James-Ward, who scored his 3rd for the season, closing the gap on his brother Ricci who has a tally of 5 to date.

The half time score was BUFC 4 to Monaro FC 0

As the second half kicked off, it would be only a few times in the next 45 minutes that Monaro would take possession of the game, as the possession ratio in the second half saw Belconnen reach close to 90% as they posted home another 7 goals.  Some credit though to the young Monaro side who played the full 90 minutes with great passion and did not let up till the final whistle.  They were rewarded with a goal from their #9 who was able to find the back of the net early in the 2nd half bringing the score back to 4 – 1.  But as the BUFC engine cranked up, the next 7 goals would go to Martin Crome (3), Jayde James-Ward (1) and Nick Rolls (3).  For Nick though, he would set a personal achievement by scoring his 4th hat-trick in a row.  (Against Cooma, Skilleroos, Tuggeranong & Monaro).

Full time score BUFC 11 to Monaro 1

Players that made a strong contribution to the game that didn’t add to their goal tally include: Connor Schroder, Zach Browning, Michael Dariol, Ricci James-Ward, Marshall Dickson, Reaghan Travers & Tom Adamson.  We also welcomed Taylor O’Connor and Harry Subasic from the Development squad as they stepped up for the rested Nelson Cary & Eric Noheli. Both Mitchell Craig and Chris Milisevic shared the goal keeping duties and did the team proud.
