BUFC 16PL (4) Vs GUNGAHLIN UNITED FC (6)
This game would be the toughest game on paper for round 10 in the U16PL. The game didn’t disappoint too many as we saw 10 goals scored, but unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of the scoring ledger as we saw our boys go down for the first time this year to a young, and more determined side played on the Nicholls synthetic.
There were a few key messages for the day given out by coach Jimmy and Col Stirton during the warm-ups, but one of them was to starve ex Belnorth superstar Mikey Katsoulis of the ball. Unfortunately, after 29 seconds, Mikey got a taste of a goal which we would go on and witness a total of 5 goals scored from one individual on this day. Credit to Mikey and Gungahlin as they would go into half time 4 – 3 up. But, it wasn’t all Gungahlin as we were able to come back from a 1 nil deficit to go 3 – 1 up with 2 goals from our Goulburn imports Eric Noheli and 1 for Liam Rae before the onslaught from Mikey.
Half time score BUFC 3 to Gungahlin United FC 4
The start of the second half revealed a deficit for the first time this season, so it was un-chartered territory and we were not sure how the boys would come back from this. The next 20 minutes saw further damage from Mikey Katsoulis and Eli Howe as they went up 6 – 3 up with 20 minutes to go. But a late goal to a determined Jayde James-Ward made the score look somewhat respectful but not enough to bring home the points.
Full time score BUFC 4 to Gungahlin 6
The ball possession was split 50%, but the percentage of accuracy was in favour of Gungahlin and in the first passes as the unpredictable pitch played havoc on our players. The pressing of the ball carrier was high and they were clinical in the areas of BPO as they cut down a number of avenues in us getting the ball out from the back four. Our best players for the day would see Reaghan Travers, Tom Adamson, Martin Crome & Jayde James-Ward get a great deal of the ball, but with a sidelined Nick Rolls out with an ankle strain, and Connor Schroder with leg tightness, we lacked the edge in their respective positions for the full 90 minutes.
2 – Eric Noheli
1 – Liam Rae
1 – Jayde James-Ward
Next week, we play Canberra FC at home (Kaleen enclosed). This will be another tough game as Canberra FC put up a good fight back in round 2 as they went down 3 – 4 after leading for most of the game.
See you all there and remember … WeAreBelconnen!!!
