BUFC 16PL (2) defeated CANBERRA OLYMPIC (1)
Playing Olympic at Downer is always an experience, you just don’t know what you will get as the ball bounce is a lottery and goals can come in many ways. Today was no difference, with over 70% of possession, the game appeared to be about wanting to survive, playing football was to happen somehow but we just need to find the spark that saw the boys start the season again. Whilst there were some good entertaining packages throughout the day, with some great touches from the mid-fields in Tom Adamson, Jayde James-Ward & Nick Rolls, we were still trying to find that magic which we know is there, but we need it for the full 90 minutes of the game. Some fine keeping from the Olympic team saw the score to be only 1 up for the boys in blue at half time. With Nunzio over-looking the game, we were accustom to the smile and chat that Nunz brings with him, but no lollies this time. We saw young Liam Rae given a yellow card but not before he slotted a goal before the break.
With a number of players making their way back into the side after playing in the Sydney tournament over the previous weekend, we know that a settling period is just around the corner as we head towards the final stages of the season, before the August finals. Not getting ahead of ourselves, the second half saw a huge percentage of play with the Belconnen lads as they posted home their second for the afternoon, this time from the ever reliable Nick Rolls, who is climbing the goal scoring ladder each week. Also scoring his first goal for the year, Lachlan Terry was unlucky to header a ball back to the keeper in a mix-up that saw Olympic crawl back to be 2-1 down, with 10 minutes left in the game. This game them some hope as they threw everything they had, but with the strong defence in Tom Cochrane, Tom Adamson, Nelson Cary, Marshall Dickson and Lachlan Terry, they were not able to penetrate to change the score of the game.
Final Scores was 2 – 1 in Belconnen’s favour.
1 – Liam Rae
1 – Nick Rolls
Next week, we play Cooma FC at home (Kaleen enclosed). This will be another tough game as Cooma FC will be wanting to turn around a 8-4 loss in round 5.
See you all there and remember … WeAreBelconnen!!!
